Plein Air

My December challenge has changed somewhat, I am still trying to paint from life…but seriously ‘what was I thinking’ a painting a day in the festive season?

The forecast today was for the sun to break through the grey sky early, so off we went with our national trust cards to Kingston Lacy.

I found a quiet spot just past the Japanese garden, away from the main house and Christmas lights trail. Once set up I got to work painting plein air. Unfortunately the sun did not come out and after an hour even with layers and fingerless gloves on, plus a takeaway tea from long-suffering we were both pretty cold and called it a morning.

On the way back through the gardens to the car a lone clump of very early snowdrops along the snowdrop walk more than made up for the lack of sunshine.
